The school made our visit, spread over two whole days, a big event in their curriculum, with presentations in their library and in their large hall. The children ranged from the youngest primary school students to the matriculation students. Four of our artists told 10 stories. The hall was hung with some of our giant tapestries, and the stories were animated with some of our giant puppets. The final presentation was to the parents and their guests, along with all the school pupils and the teachers.
In the smaller presentations, the youngest children were given an interactive experience with our giant lion puppets, while the eldest students had group discussions about the meanings of the stories. For our four artists, the scale of the school, with its excellent resources, swimming pool, libraries, laboratories, and fine buildings (way beyond anything they had experienced at their own township schools), could have been overwhelming. Instead, the welcome they were given and the interest and appreciation of their mythology and their storytelling by the pupils and teachers made it a hugely positive experience for all concerned.
